An   Accessibility
Guide

to Los
Angeles
Art
Spaces

As organizations make their spaces more accessible, it is also important to make information about accessibility available to their audiences. Listing access information is a large part of facilitating access.
– Carolyn Lazard, Accessibility in the Arts: A Promise and a Practice

An Accessibility Guide to Los Angeles Art Spaces will manifest as an interactive resource, map, and guide to art spaces in Los Angeles County created through collective research and public outreach. This work emphasizes ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessibility, while including expanded perspectives of what accessibility is in diverse social contexts.

Our goals are to:

  • Create additional space for the ongoing conversation of accessibility needs

  • Reflect on and change how we situate ourselves and practices in this context

  • Provide direct information to support people that are looking to experience art

The guide engages, but is not limited to architectural, financial, linguistic/informational, and cultural/social accessibility.

We recognize that the land on which this project takes place, now known as Los Angeles County, is land originally and still inhabited and cared for by the Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizh, and Chumash Peoples.

This is a project of the Los Angeles Artist Census and was made with support from the California Arts Council Impact Project Grant.
